Tour Nationalpark Conguillio

We leave from the Hotel Andenrose, and travel on gravel roads to wonderful Conguillio National Park, an area of approximately 60.000 hectares, and probably one of the most beautiful parks in Chile. The Park was founded mainly to protect the great araucaria forests remaining still intact in the area.

Tour Volcano Lonquimay, Crater Navidad (Reserva Nacional Malalcahuello), Lolco, Valley Bio-Bio. Lonquimay

This is a one-day excursion through a varied and fascinating landscape. We travel past Malallcahuello in the direction of Vulcano Lonquimay, first traversing a mixed forest of leafy trees, and then finding ourselves in the midst of a forest consisting exclusively of araucarias.

These giants rise to a height of up to 50 meters. After four kilometers of this forest, the vegetation comes to a sudden end, and we stand amazed before a desert of ashes, at the foot of Vulcano Lonquimay, which at 2865 meters high seems like an oversized dune made of ashes. Our route takes us along the eastern edge of the vulcano and we arrive at Crater Navidad, from which Lonquimay erupted last on December 25, 1988  chile_crater_navidad
We will be able to admire gigantic lava flows formed after that eruption, at the end of which the exuberant vegetation can be seen once again. Further on, we will traverse both native leafy trees and araucaria forest, and enjoy exceptionally beautiful views of the Andes.  chile_camino_lolco_2_andenrose
After a picnic, we will travel along meadows and forests, descanding to the well-known Valley of the lake Bio-Bio. We will continue along the course of the latter until we arrive to the small town of Lonquimay. To get back to the Andenrose, we go through the tunnel "Las Raices" the longest and hand-hewn tunnel in South America.  chile_camino_lolco_4_andenrose
